Change

Change is the buzz word. It has been since 2008 elections. We all want to change. We want to change something. In the workplace change will come regardless of wanting to or not. I look at how we have named each generation, x, y, z, silent and know that we all experience change.

I like change – especially when it is in the right direction and for the right reasons. I work in the healthcare industry and change has come and will continue to affect our industry in many years to come. As the new law is moving from legislation to implementation, our company must change and evolve with it.

If I don’t change and adapt to change in my workplace, then I need to find a job in another market. There is no other way. It is how we react to change that determines the future of a company. In this age of information and rapid market changes, any company that does not keep up with the pace is destined to be irrelevant.

I see it

The way I see it, we will need team work now than never before. Data is produced as never before. Recently at UC Berkeley they calculated “… new information (data) in 2000 reached 1.5 exabytes.” And just in Africa internet has grown 1,809.8 % from 2008 to 2009. This data has to be managed and made sense of. As we know data leads to power – if you only apply.

This has created an unprecedented opportunity of its kind. The internet has grown dramatically. All of us generate data that is captured and processed all the time. A great leader will take advantage of this and create strong teams to tackle challenging issues and manage this data.

Model UN – there was a time.

There was a time I was very passionate about politics. I took poli-sci classes and participated in Model UN, which was fun and I would still do it. I learned about many countries’ foreign policy and standing on many issues. It was fun learning about them. Now-a-days I read the news and follow what’s happening, but I am not passionate about it. I want to keep up with what is happening in our Capitol and I do vote on local issues.

Politics are all about compromise and working together to get thing done. These days, nothing is getting done and everyone is in my-way-or-highway attitude. All of the issues that can be solve are still out there to be made campaign agendas – seriously how long can we run on the same issue and promise to solve them with the same tired ‘get the politicians out and get me in the office’ mantra. But we still seem to be buying the same old play over and over again.

My participation is strictly local/state. I vote when local PROPs come up for voting. My most recent activity was voting for PROP 100 – knowing the our State politicians run our state like their own casino and corporations and special groups get the VIP treatment, I don’t want to see anymore teacher losing their jobs. It may not help in the long run, but maybe there is someone there really wants to ‘get the politicians out.’
